What is a Raw Email or .eml file?

Each email client provides a different way to view and save a raw email content needed for analysis. Click on your email provider below to see detailed instructions.

1.Open Gmail and find the email you want to analyze
2.Click the three dots (more options) in the top-right corner
3.Select "Show original"
4.Click "Copy to clipboard"
5.Paste the content into the form
6.Or click "Download Original" and save the file
7.Upload the file to the form
8.Click Summarize Email

1.For Outlook on the web:
In the message reading pane, click the Reply all button down arrow
Then click View message details
2.For Outlook for Windows:
Double-click the message to open it in a new window
Click the File menu and then click the Properties button
3.For Outlook for Mac:
Right-click or CONTROL + click the message
Then select View Source

1.Open the email you want to view the headers for
2.Select the View menu in the top menu bar
3.Select Message in the drop-down menu
4.Select Raw Source in the sub-menu
5.The email headers and source code will be displayed in a new window
6.Select all the content (Cmd+A) and copy (Cmd+C)
7.Paste the content into the form above

3.Select View raw message in the drop-down menu
4.The email headers and source code will be displayed in a new window
5.Select all the content (Ctrl+A or Cmd+A) and copy (Ctrl+C or Cmd+C)
6.Paste the content into the form above

2.Click the three dots (More) menu in the top-right
3.Select "View raw message"
4.A popup will appear with the raw email content
5.Click "Download" to save as an .eml file, or
6.Copy all content and paste it in the form

1.Open the message whose headers and source code you want to access
2.Select Actions in the message's header area
Keyboard shortcut: Press ; (semicolon) to bring up the Actions menu
3.Choose Show raw message in the menu that appears
Using keyboard: Use arrow keys to navigate, then press Enter to select
4.The raw message will open in a new tab or window
5.Copy all the content (Ctrl+A/Cmd+A to select all, then Ctrl+C/Cmd+C to copy)
6.Paste the content into the form above
Note:These steps work in both desktop and mobile versions of Fastmail on the web

The raw email content must include all headers (From, To, Subject, Date, etc.)
When in doubt, include all the content you see in the raw/original view
Most email clients provide a way to view the "Original" or "Raw" message
The process may differ slightly depending on your email client version
